    Craniosacral Therapy

    What is Craniosacral therapy?

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle hands-on technique provided by a medical practitioner to allow for body restrictions to be identified and released in order to promote the body to help itself heal, as well as aide in preventing illnesses.

The subtle techniques can be used to address chronic and acute health issues, alleviate pain, providing comfort and overall well-being. This allows for a blend and balance of the mind and body.

Specifically, the craniosacral system is comprised of cerebral spinal fluid and membranes which surround the brain and spinal cord and serves to protect them. The system extends from the cranium which is made of the bones of the skull, to the sacrum known as the tailbone.

Any type of restriction or imbalance in this system can lead to a variety or combination of problems affecting the motor, sensory, or neurological systems.

What health issues can craniosacral therapy address?

    • Tension and migraine headaches
    • Stress and muscular tension
    • Fibromyalgia
    • TMJ, Skeletal Disorders, Scoliosis
    • Acute or chronic neck, shoulder, or back pain
    • Sports injuries
    • Neurological disorders
    • Depression and Emotional Disorders
    • Insomnia and Fatigue
    • Learning Disabilities
    • PMS and Female hormone disorders

What to expect during your craniosacral therapy session?

A thorough medical history, description of the health issue and reason to seek craniosacral therapy are documented. During treatment, the patient remains fully clothed or with undergarments left on with proper draping. The patient’s craniosacral rhythm is first monitored at specific points to determine imbalances or restrictions. The therapeutic touch is light and subtle manual techniques to the craniosacral areas are applied to release restrictions found during the initial body evaluation. A treatment may be scheduled for a 20-60 minute session. It can be combined with other types of treatment. The outcome: a release of central nervous system restrictions allowing for a relaxed mind and body with improved function, healing, and optimum health.
